The City of Eton is home to the second inland port in the state (another inland port will be operational in 2024 in northeast Georgia). The Appalachian Regional Port is the gateway to Georgia’s seaport of Savannah, the fourth busiest port in the U.S., for markets in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Inland ports relieve interstate congestion and carbon emissions by using rail passage. A truck driver can pull in, unload a container, and be on their way in less than 20 minutes.
Because of our inland port, big name businesses are relocating here.
We have welcomed General Electric (GE) Logistics Center and Huali Floors, enhancing job growth in the region. Foss Floors and Polytech Fibers, LLC are expanding. We welcomed Galaxy Group, a Las Vegas, Nevada-based manufacturer, to the Murray South Industrial Park where they are building a facility. Green Galaxy Group purchased 41 acres for its back-to-the-U.S. manufacturing facility to make synthetic surfacing.
The Appalachian Regional Port is on 42 acres in Northwest Georgia’s Murray County. The port is a joint effort of the state of Georgia, Murray County, the Georgia Ports Authority and CSX Transportation. The inland rail terminal, which opened in 2018, provides a powerful gateway to global markets.
Murray County is within reach of 75% of the continental U.S. in two days or fewer.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is two hours away from Murray County. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is less than an hour away. Nearby Dalton Municipal Airport is 15 miles from Murray and accommodates nearly 95% of general aviation and corporate aircraft on its 5,495-foot runway.
CSX is a Class I freight railroad operating in the eastern U.S. and Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec on approximately 20,000 route miles of track. Class I railroad Norfolk-Southern operates a rail-truck transfer facility in nearby Dalton.
Interstate 75 runs about 15 miles through Murray County. Scenic routes with direct access include U.S. Highways 76 and 411. Additionally, Georgia State Routes connect us with the world: Routes 2, 52, 61, 225, 282 & 286.
